We are pleased to announce Megrez Education’s offering of a writing course. This course is for students in grades 3-6 who are interested in improving their writing skills.

Our instructor, Blake Pynnonen, has over six years of teaching experience, specializing in upper elementary writing instruction. Blake has a master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Michigan, with a teaching major in Language Arts. Blake also has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, where he majored in Philosophy and minored in Linguistics and Film Studies on a full-tuition, academic scholarship. Blake’s deep and broad academic background, in addition to a passion for working with children, allows him to meet student needs while also engaging them in their interests. Some student writing samples from last year’s class are available here https://www.allourwriting.net.

No matter what texts students choose to focus on, whether it’s analysis, argumentation, story-telling, or nonfiction, they will leave the class with a sense of accomplishment and joy associated with writing, as their works will be published in a hard-copy anthology (professionally bound and printed) that each student will get a copy to keep at the conclusion of the course. Student works may also be published online (with parental permission).

Schedule: This is a six-week course (06/21-07/30/2021) that has one-hour daily meetings Monday through Friday. The meeting times during 06/21-07/07 and 07/22-07/30 are 10:30 am-11:30 am ET in the morning. The meeting times during 07/08-07/21 are 8 pm-9 pm ET in the evening. The instructor gives lectures in classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The Tuesday and Thursday meetings are office hours when the instructor will work with students to improve individual writing skills.
