Inkwell English Education is a team of qualified and experienced professionals who support learners in developing reading and writing skills. They offer instruction in English language arts through online tutoring sessions and small classes.

Small class sizes from 6-12 students ensure that all students receive personal attention.

Reading Skills (grades 3-5)

Class sessions consist of brain warm-ups, mini lessons, reading aloud, engaging exercises and activities, and homework review.

Length of Class—ten one-hour sessions   Time—Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 – 5:00 PM

Date—July 13 – August 12, 2021. Tuition—$200.

Creative Writing (grades 4-6)

Based on the reading of  D’Aulaires’ Book of Greek Myths, this class incorporates both formal and creative writing. You will research, write summaries of, and create online images of your favorite mythical characters. You will then invent a new mythological character. As a final project, you will write a story introducing this character into your favorite myth.

Concepts taught are reading comprehension, thinking and research skills, and writing.

Length of Class—ten one-hour sessions   Time—Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 – 10:00 AM

Date—June 21-July 14, 2021  Note updated schedule excluding July 5 holiday. Tuition—$200.

Research Writing (grades 7-10)

This class combines research skills with creative writing in an engaging and fun way. You will practice …

  1. research skills like determining subject matter, choosing credible resources, and organizing notes.
  2. proper grammar and mechanics for formal writing.
  3. informative writing that includes description and author imitation.
  4. critical thinking skills.
  5. reading comprehension skills like main ideas, inference, and the author’s use of humor.

Length of Class—ten one-hour sessions  Time—Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:30 – 11:30 AM

Literary Analysis (grades 8-12)

This instruction is part of Inkwell’s proprietary Writing Wraps program. Literary Analysis: The Craft of Story develops the core skill of annotation. A technique of close reading, annotation is key to unlocking and understanding the meaning of a text. You will learn to annotate . . .

Five Elements of Fiction:

    • plot
    • characterization
    • setting
    • point of view

Literary Devices:

    • Diction
    • Figures of Rhetoric
    • Figures of Speech
    • Figures of Sound
    • Imagery

After analyzing the elements and literary devices of a story, you will respond to nuances of meaning, tone, and style. Then you will draft and edit essays of literary analysis.

Length of Class—twelve one-hour sessions. Time—Mondays and Thursdays from 7:00 – 8:00 PM

Date—June 21, 2021 – July 29, 2021. Tuition–$240.

Standardized Test Prep (grades 9-12)

This class demystifies the grammar and usage of English. Studying concepts in a fun and interactive way, you’ll develop competence and confidence in your command of language.

Concepts covered include mechanics and usage as well as the rhetoric of writing:

Length of Class—eight 90-minute sessions. Time—Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00 – 8:30 PM

Date—June 14-July 7, 2021  Tuition—$240.
